It does not have to be this way, argues MIT economist Daron Ac...

    There has been no downfall at all of the succesfull free market system in Chile ("neoliberalism"). As a former member of the marxist government of president Salvador Allende, Edwards was led to believe that the young neocommunist president Gabriel Boric would attain his proclaimed goal of destroying capitalism in Chile and thus become a second Allende. But the people of Chile have voted massively to retain the economic system implemented by the Chicago Boys, including the 1980 Constitution signed by president Pinochet. Every poll now indicates that the next president will be either the daughter of a Junta member (Evelyn Mathei) or the brother of a prominent Chicago Boys (Antonio Kast), and of course both will keep and probably deepen the free market system.

    Such a timely forum. Just amazing history for everyone to know. When UChicago was trying to set up an economic institute to honor the great economist, Milton Friedman, many leftest student protested for they thought Milton has helped the military dictator, but the fact was that he never had any close relationship with the regime. That's why the university named the new institute Becker Friedman Institute.

    Hi Sir! It is very well in your happy who is one of some African leaders satisfied with China's investment in the African continent. That is well and congratulations on your short-of-view sighting optimism for your country but you must be careful. It could be a big catastrophe in the long term for your country to cooperate with China. China is the new imperial in the world! Most of the African countries don't have a real experience about them. You must check, how the suffering experiences people in the neighbourhood countries of China. The best way to predict the truth of China is by checking the Chinese history movement and how the people of the neighbouring countries think about China. We hope your country will not be the victim of China

    I am writing to share my thoughts on a recent video that I watched, which I found to be quite disappointing and ultimately unhelpful. This video failed to meet expectations for several reasons, and I felt compelled to express my concerns. First and foremost, one of the most glaring issues with the video was its lack of clarity. Throughout the entire duration, it was challenging to discern the main points being conveyed. The narration seemed disjointed, jumping from one topic to another without providing sufficient context or explanation. As a result, I found myself struggling to follow along and grasp the intended message of the video. Furthermore, the information presented in the video was highly questionable in terms of accuracy. There were several instances where factual inaccuracies were stated, which not only misled viewers but also undermined the credibility of the content. As someone who values reliable information, I found this aspect of the video particularly troubling and ultimately detracted from its overall utility. Moreover, the production quality of the video left much to be desired. From poor lighting and shaky camera work to distracting background noise, it was evident that little attention was paid to the technical aspects of the production. As a result, the viewing experience was severely hindered, making it difficult to engage with the content on a meaningful level. Additionally, I was disappointed by the lack of engagement elicited by the video. Despite its best efforts, the content failed to captivate my interest or stimulate critical thinking. The narrator's delivery was monotonous, and the visuals were uninspiring, resulting in a rather dull and unmemorable viewing experience. Furthermore, it became apparent as I watched the video that there was a clear bias present in the content. Certain viewpoints were presented in a skewed manner, while others were altogether ignored or misrepresented. This one-sided approach not only detracted from the video's credibility but also left me feeling skeptical of the information being presented. I regret to say that the video fell short of expectations in several key areas, rendering it unhelpful and ultimately bad. Its lack of clarity, inaccurate information, poor production quality, lack of engagement, biased content, all contributed to a deeply unsatisfactory viewing experience. Moving forward, I hope that the creators of the video will take these criticisms into account and strive to improve the quality and effectiveness of their content. To sum this whole thing up, I was sleeping 30 seconds into the video.

    So many blind spots, so much framing to make his analogies work. Here’s a premise he should have started with: all brains crave endorphins. The pursuit of endorphins drives everything, but not every brain responds the same way to those endorphins. The lack of endorphins prompts depression. All economics should be founded on those basic concepts.

    Perhaps it's discussed later, but it would be interesting so drill down into the different immigration groups. The Q seems flawed though - I'd put it that when someone thinks of immigrstion they're not thinking of a Chinese Architect coming over to work, yet the same architect is in the statistics showing that immigration is good - most people I talk to are pro controlled, skilled Migration. The crime rates related to illegals and asylum seekers would or will be interesting to understand.

    • @saahiliyer11
      @saahiliyer11 Місяць тому

      I think it’s worth exploring what precise it is you’re asking. What your question revolves around, but does not state explicitly, is income/wealth. Setting aside the “crime” of illegal entry, you’re really asking if there’s a difference between people who immigrate as already middle class people (your Chinese architect) and people seeking asylum (who are generally in poverty and fleeing violence).
